WELCOME

My name is Carly (She/Her). I'm a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and Relational Somatic Therapist. I have also been practicing Massage Therapy for over a decade along with Thai Massage, Yoga Therapy, and Mindfulness Meditation. I recently graduated as an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist) in June 2023.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little more..

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with what it means to be human. I would often wander into the woods or sit by the river for hours, taking in the beauty of the natural world, befriending the creatures I would find along the way, while trying to understand my place in the web of it all. Nature was my refuge. It still is.

I was born & raised in Squamish, BC on the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. My family relocated to Montreal, QC, the traditional territory of the Kanien'kehà:ka Nation, where my two sisters and I were brought up by our single mother.

I currently reside in Nelson, BC, on the traditional territories of the Sinixt, Syilx & Ktunaxa Nations.

I acknowledge my Irish & Scottish ancestry and that I am a settler on these lands. I am a granddaughter, daughter, sister, mother, step-mother, wife, and friend.

As a young girl, I was no stranger to the impacts of mental illness & addiction, poverty, and going without. My initiation into the darker nights of the soul came early and unbidden. My own journey with trauma, grief, loss, and heartbreak taught me that I could be a sensitive soul AND resilient. What I remember most are the acts of kindness from friends, teachers, strangers who gifted me with a listening ear, an outstretched hand, the simplicity of bearing witness. That was when I knew I wanted to be of service. A safe place for weary souls to land.

My career began almost 15 years ago with a Diploma in Eastern Therapies & Bodywork. I was deeply inspired by a holistic framework and considering the body, mind, and spirit when it came to health and healing. I taught Yoga for over a decade and fell in love with mindfulness & meditation. I attended silent meditation retreats and was eager to understand this mysterious inner world, the source of our pain & suffering, and what makes human beings tick. My students and massage clients would open up to me about their lives. I felt called to study the human mind and heart in a different way and so I became a psychotherapist.

After receiving my Professional Counselling Diploma, I deepened my training in attachment and neuroscience with Relational Somatic Therapy. A body-based approach to counselling was a natural evolution from my background in massage and understanding the mind-body connection. As a Relational Somatic Therapist, I have expertise in a highly effective therapeutic model that is well-researched and grounded in neuroscience, attachment theory, and trauma resolution. More info on my education & training is below should that interest you.

I live with my husband, step-son, three year old son, and our fur baby. When I am not working, I enjoy playing in the mountains with my children, gardening, learning new instruments, exploring the art of play through clowning, and writing in my journal.

I offer a safe space to collaboratively explore your unique life challenges, deepen self-awareness and self-compassion, and break free from painful patterns using a client-centered, mindfulness-based, somatic and trauma-informed approach.

I am grateful that my own process of befriending the hard stuff, and allowing self-compassion in, has enhanced my knowledge and refined my skills as a therapeutic practitioner.

I am humbled by the mystery of our shared humanity and for the privilege of bearing witness to both the pain and beauty in it all.
